Ofsted joy for Crowle school
Staff, governors and parents at the North Axholme secondary school in Crowle have had mixed results from their recent OFSTED inspection.
The school was awarded a grade three (satisfactory) for its overall performance. The school is described as an "improving school" by the inspectors.
In their report they said: "This is an efficent, friendly and inclusive school, where every young person is known and supported well.
"A strong effort is being is being made to raise achievement by updating the curriculum and improving the quality of teaching. Teachers' good subject knowledge and relationships support students well in the next step of their learning."
The students were described as well behaved and the staff's ability to manage any behavioural problems effective. The school was also said to have a very effective anti-bullying club run by the students.
In a letter to students the inspectors thanked them for their warm welcome and commented on their mature attitudes, respect for staff and each other and their considerate behaviour.
However there was room for marked improvement in some areas, the inspectors stated. Recommendations included that further improvements needed to be made in mathematics and science and that the development of teachers' assessment skills should be improved to further support the students' learning.
The effectiveness of leadership and management was described as no more than adequate, with further improvement needed in self-evaluation.
