A Goole man who admitted making a "stupid mistake" by driving with no insurance or a valid licence had been banned and fined.

Murl Midgeley, of Hook Road, pleaded to guilty to both offences when he appeared before Goole Magistrates' Court.

Prosecuting, Julie Laverack Glanville said that police officers had followed Mr Midgeley as he drove from Airmyn to Hook and along Hook Road at around 2am on Saturday, July 21.

He was stopped on Hook Road, Mrs Laverack Glanville said, and when asked if he had a driving licence, replied that he did not.

Mr Midgeley was arrested and taken to the police station, where he admitte having no insurance or a valid driving licence

The court heard that his provisional licence had expired.

Mr Midgeley told the court: "I made a stupid mistake - I drove because I was angry."

Magistrates ordered his licence to be endorsed with eight points, taking him to a total of 14 and therefore an automatic ban.

He was disqualified from driving for six months, ordered to pay a fine of £260 for having no insurance and £100 for not having a valid licence.

He was also told to pay £15 towards the victims' compensation fund and court costs of £40.

Magistrates warned Mr Midgeley not to drive while he was disqualified, saying: "Many people who drive while banned do go to prison."
