Julie Forrest, along with friends Kim Buckle and Pam Needham, completed a sky dive last Sunday for Yorkshire Cancer Research and in remembrance of her good friend, Steph Noble. The fearless threesome managed to raise over £2,000 for the cause.

Julie decided to do some fundraising to raise money to send Steph somewhere special after the news that she had terminal cancer. However, Steph selflessly decided to ask Julie to donate the money to Cancer Research.

And so they started planning, with the intention that Steph would hand over the cheque for the final amount raised when they had completed the sky dive. Sadly Steph didn't live to see them.

Julie has admitted to a phobia of heights but explained that once she was in the plane she did not have time to think about it. She said: "It was OK once I jumped. I was concentrating on breathing as it is quite hard when you are that high up."

Julie's sister Dianne commented on how brave she thought Julie was, considering her fear of heights. She said: "My sister, Kim and Pam put all their fears to one side to raise money for a good cause. I believe Julie drew her bravery from the bravery of her late friend Steph, who we shall never forget."

Family member Eleanor Walton also helped Julie, Kim and Pam with their fundraising. She said: "I wanted to help with my own sponsor form and I would like to thank the following people: all my family and friends, all the staff at Helen's Taxis, Dave Pickard of Pickard's Butchers, Andy and Ronni of the Supreme Coffee House, the girls in Chappelow's on the precinct and the girls at Tony's Textiles.

"We raised £140 to add to Julie and Kim's own sponsorships. Steph was a beautiful, vibrant, brave lady whose memory will live forever."

Julie said: "There are many people we would like to thank for their support from this skydive.

"Originally we hoped to raise £1,000 but we have raised £2,191.50. Pam did the jump for personal reasons and raised £627! We were so proud of her.

"As for looking back, it shows me that you should never say never and it's amazing what you can do when you have good friends, good reasons and support. You really can do anything if you put your mind to it."
