Fond farewell to oldest resident

Sandhall Park Nursing Home's oldest resident and long-term Goole resident Mrs Elsie May Huntington has died at the age of 103.

Mr Huntington was born in Newark and moved to Goole, where she met her husband-to-be while she was working as manageress at Maynards shop on Boothferry Road.

George Huntington. a docker, was a customer at Maynards, where he used to buy his cigarettes. The couple married in 1952.

Mrs Huntington has three grandsons in Canada and three in Yorkshire. She also has at least three great-grandchildren.

She went into Sandhall Park Nursing Home nine years ago and Derek Buckley, her nephew, commented how well she had been looked after there.

Mrs Huntington's funeral was held on Monday at St. John's Parish Church in Goole and was followed by interment at Goole Cemetery. (02-08-33 SU)
