Prospective Conservative MP for Brigg and Goole Andrew Percy and East Riding of Yorkshire Councillor Caroline Fox are supporting the Parish Council and Reedness Primary School in their campaign for improved road safety outside the school.

Mr Percy said: "Anyone who knows the corner on which Reedness Primary School is located will know just how dangerous this corner is. Many residents in Reedness have expressed concern about road safety at the school and we are therefore calling for action to be taken to put some road safety measures into place at this location."

Cllr Fox said: "The East Riding Council is already looking at this issue and we are currently waiting for the school to complete a school travel plan and the hope is that road safety measures will be introduced early next year. This is an issue that Cllr Gordon Megson and I have been pursing since we were elected and we are delighted to support the Parish Council and the Reedness Primary School in working for improvements."

Reedness Parish Council chairman Roland Backhouse said: "This is a road safety issue and we need action to improve safety outside the school before a serious accident occurs. Children have to cross the road at this junction in order to access the school playing fields and it is therefore vital that drivers are made more aware of the school's location and are encouraged to slow down."

Mr Percy and Cllr Fox are asking the council to look at a range of options, including increased road markings, a 20 mph speed zone and improved signs outside the school.

It is anticipated that East Riding Council will start work in April next year but this will depend on a number of factors which it is hoped will be dealt with during the coming weeks.
