Pensioner robbed on doorstep
The son of an 83-year-old woman who was robbed on her doorstep last weekend has branded the thief as 'lowlife lower than the sewers'.
The pensioner, who has asked not to be named, had just stepped out of her house on Church Close, Old Goole between 9.50am and 10.10am on Sunday when a young man cycled past and snatched her handbag from her.
She was not injured in the attack but was badly shaken.
"She was still white and shaking when I got back from Hull three hours later," her son said.
"Here we have a pensioner of 83 being robbed on her doorstep. She's frail, a full-blown diabetic and has lived in Old Goole for 62 years.
"The lowlife that has done this disgraceful act is lower than the sewers he must live in.
"I hope one day soon he gets his just deserts."
As well as the shock of the robbery, the pensioner also had to pay for a new lock, as her house keys were in the handbag.
"I would love to see the lock that I have taken out being used to lock up this coward," said her son.
Three sentimental charms, £120 in cash from her birthday party, a bank card, pension card, bus pass, electricity card and a ballpoint were also stolen from the bag, which was a black, leather-look handbag with a strap.
The thief was between 15 and 18 years old, of thin or slim build, clean-shaven and wearing a dark baseball cap with an off-white tip, a white top, blue jeans and light-coloured trainers.
He was heading towards Humber Street, and turned left towards Swinefleet Road.
Humberside Police have carried out house to house inquiries and will study CCTV camera footage.
They are also appealing to the public for help.
Sam Lane, spokesperson, said: "I would ask people to check their gardens and bins around the area of the bag snatch to see if the any items stolen have been discarded.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may know who is responsible is asked to contact police on 0845 60 60 222, or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111." The crime reference number to quote is CR 1504814.
