Man hurt in crash remains critical
A man remains in a critical condition after a double accident at Welham Bridge which left two cars in a ditch.
Police have now issued an appeal for witnesses to the accidents, which happened on the A614 early last Wednesday morning.
The first accident occurred at around 6.20am, when a Vauxhall Corsa travelling towards Holme upon Spalding Moor left the road and crashed into the ditch.
The driver, a 23-year-old man from Howden, received a minor cut to his arm and was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Around 30 minutes later, a blue Vauxhall Astra travelling in the same direction also went into the ditch and collided with the Corsa.
The driver of the Astra, a man from Huddersfield, suffered life-threatening injuries to his head.
As we went to press, he was in a critical but stable condition in Hull Royal Infirmary.
His front seat passenger, a 38-year-old man from Mirfield, suffered minor injuries including cuts and bruises.
The driver and passenger of a white lorry, which was not involved in the accident but was travelling in front of the Astra, contacted the emergency services and gave assistance at the scene.
Police would now like to speak to anyone else who witnessed the accident or saw the cars being driven beforehand.
They can be contacted on 0845 6060 222 and the log number is 94 of August 1, 2007.
