Green light for garage extension
Plans to extend the car storage area at the Brian Leighton Garage at Howden were given the go-ahead last week when members of East Riding of Yorkshire Council's (ERYC) planning committee met in Beverley.
The site is currently home to a car showroom, servicing workshops, a filling station and car storage area. The application for full planning permission, submitted by B. Leighton Garages Ltd, will now see the existing storage area extended to the east, onto vacant land.
Some nearby residents have objected to the plans, branding the site a 'dumping ground' and an 'eyesore', and claiming that the garage should move onto an industrial site if it needed more space.
But the application was approved after officers assured members of the planning committee that there would be minimal additional impact over and above the existing situation and, subject to conditions requiring landscaping and lighting schemes, the application would comply with planning policies.
