One man died and another suffered serious injuries in a motorbike collision at a disused tip near Thorne.

The accident happened around 6pm on Tuesday at the disused Thorne Colliery Tip, approximately a mile from the end of Grange Road in Moorends.

Police are still investigating the accident but it is thought that the motorcylists, both believed to be from Moorends, were approaching the hill from different directions and collided at the top.

The 20-year-old rider of a green and white Kawaski KX85 was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with head injuries which later proved to be fatal.

The 26-year-old rider of a yellow Suzuki RMZ250 suffered serious injuries to his abdomen, leg and head and was airlifted to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.

Neither rider has been named.
