A motorist had a lucky escape on Friday when his car and the caravan it was towing careered off the road, through a crash barrier and collided with a tree off the M18's eastbound junction with the M62 at Langham.

Police received an emergency call shortly after 3.15pm and closed one lane of the M62 slip road until 7.30pm because the caravan was partly blocking the hard shoulder.

Fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene and the driver of the Skoda Octavia was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary for a check-up, but was found to have suffered only minor cuts and bruises. (02-08-62 SU)
