Goole residents who have had their homes damaged as a result of the recent downpours are entitled to a 'flood card' from Focus DIY that entitles them to 20 per cent off many items in store.

The DIY chain has acted quickly following the recent bad weather to ensure that people who have been affected by the floods can receive a discount to help reduce the cost of cleaning up.

But, suffering residents of the Goole area will have to travel as far as Selby, Hull or Doncaster in order to apply for the discount card as the cards are currently only being issued by stores in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Hull, Beverley, Chesterfield, Louth, Mansfield, Retford, Doncaster and Selby - despite the fact that the card can be used in the Focus DIY store in Goole once it has been obtained.

A spokesperson for Focus told the Goole Times this week: "At first, Goole was not identified as an area that was vastly affected by the flooding but the scheme is under review.

"New stores are being added to the initiative all the time and the card can be used in any Focus store."

Focus DIY offers an affordable and comprehensive range of DIY and decorating products, household and garden furniture, tools and materials, Kitchens and appliances, and bathrooms.

The discount card scheme is available until January, 2008. To qualify, residents simply have to prove that their home has been subject to flooding, by producing an insurance certificate in-store, for example.
