The East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) has spoken out in response to a Goole resident's concerns over the completion of a safe play area in St George's Green.

Two weeks ago, exasperated Peter Earl told the Goole Times residents of the Peter Ward Homes development at St George's Green were still living in hope of the road being adopted by ERYC once the developer had brought it up to standard, and were still waiting for an on-site children's play area to be made safe and suitable for youngsters.

Mr Earl said residents were not being kept up-to-date with the situation, and he feared that if Peter Ward Homes did not bring the road up to standard in time for its proposed adoption in October, then residents would have to wait for another year.

But a spokesperson for ERYC told the Goole Times this week: "The amenity open space is on a 12-month maintenance contract with Peter Ward Homes. This, as stated, is due for adoption in October, 2007.

"The site is due to be inspected this week and any remedial works will be identified and passed on to Peter Ward Homes for their attention. If the site is not up to an acceptable standard when inspected in October, the maintenance period will be extended and the site will not be adopted until all remedial works are carried out to our satisfaction."
