Graham Bate, a consulting engineer from Newport, was recently elected as the 2007-08 president of Goole Rotary Club.

Graham has lived in the local area for 32 years, he is married to Jeannie and they have three grown-up children Richard, Conrad and Naomi.

When not working Graham enjoys cycling, photography and travel and he is a keen public speaker. Graham is an active member of the community and he recently lent a hand to help out with flooding problems in his area.

His objectives for his presidential year are to increase membership by raising awareness of the Rotary Club and what is stands for. A key part of Graham's work will be raising money to support his chosen charities, which include, Candelighters - a childhood cancer foundation, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Yorkshire Cancer and the Tsunami fund.

Perhaps with his love of cycling he can convince other Rotarians to participate in another fundraising bike ride!
