Drugs crackdown sees more arrests
Two Goole men were arrested last week after police launched the fourth drugs raid in three weeks in a bid to crack down on drug dealing around the town.
Police smashed their way into one of the few remaining occupied houses in Phoenix Street at around 11am on Thursday after a warrant was executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
After surrounding the property, police moved quickly, using a battering ram to break through the door. Once inside they searched the loft space at the top of the house and moved through the roof space into neighbouring terraced houses.
As a result of the raid, a 26-year-old Goole man was arrested and received a caution for possessing the class A drug heroin. An 18-year-old man, also from Goole, was arrested and received a caution for possessing the class C drug cannabis.
Last Thursday's incident was the fourth of its kind to occur around the town in three weeks.
On July 6, a double drugs raid was carried out on two properties in Milton Street and Morley Street and seven people were arrested on suspicion of various drugs-related offences. All those arrested were released on police bail, pending further inquiries, until the end of August.
Four days later, on July 10, police raided a first-floor flat in Manuel Street and arrested three men and a woman on suspicion of drugs-related offences. Once again, all those arrested were released on police bail until the end of August.
Following the last spate of raids across the town, detective sergeant Gavin Orsborne told the Goole Times that the recent crackdowns came as a result of the misery being caused to the community through local drug dealing activity.
"It has become apparent that networks of people are profiting from drug dealing in the Goole area, causing misery and disruption for the local community, and this will not be tolerated," he said.
