Driver air-lifted after M62 crash
Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious accident on the M62 near Howden last Wednesday.
The incident happened on the Balkholme straight prior to Howden at 4.05pm when a white articulated Scania lorry towing a white refrigerated lorry carrying frozen foods crashed through the central reservation, tipping over onto its side and down the embankment alongside the eastbound carriageway.
The driver, a 57-year-old man from Wakefield, was trapped in the vehicle for two and a half hours before being freed by the fire brigade and air lifted to Hull Royal Infirmary. His injuries were not life-threatening and he was later allowed home.
The M62 eastbound was closed for six hours and the westbound carriageway was closed for nine hours to allow examination of the scene for emergency repairs to the crash barriers. Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the vehicle prior to the incident. Anyone who has any information should contact police on 0845 6060222, quoting log number 443.
