Jailed after attack on security guard
A Crowle man who attacked a female security guard has been given an 18 month prison sentence.
Brian Hopkins (29), of High Street, appeared at Grimsby Crown Court last week charged with dangerous driving and two offences of common assault, relating to two separate incidents.
The first, in July 2006, began in the Red Lion pub, in Crowle.
Prosecutor Edward Bindloss told the court that Mr Hopkins had been talking to another man about a car Mr Hopkins had sold to the man's friend.
During the evening, Mr Hopkins punched the man in the face, Mr Bindloss said.
Mr Bindloss said a retired police officer had described seeing the man looking for Mr Hopkins with a spade.
Shortly afterwards, there was a car chase with Mr Hopkins pursuing the man and his friends, which resulted in a collision.
Mr Hopkins pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and common assault.
The court was also told that while on bail for these offences, Mr Hopkins attacked a security in Lincoln while trying to steal two bottles of vodka.
Mr Bindloss told the judge that the defendant had pushed a female security guard, causing her to fall the floor, and stood on her ankle.
Mr Hopkins admitted a second charge of common assault.
Defending, Andrew Bailey said that his client had had problems with heroin and alcohol in the past but was trying to put these behind him and was disappointed with his behaviour.
Mr Hopkins was sentenced to nine months in prison for these offences and was given a 12-month driving ban and penalty points on his licence.
He was ordered to serve a further nine months in prison for breaching the terms of a conditional discharge he received in 2004 for attempted burglary.
