Man exposed himself to young boy in toilet
A Goole man was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register earlier this week after he appeared in court over an allegation that he indecently exposed himself to a child in the customer toilets at Tesco.
John Silman (32), of St David's Court in Fourth Avenue, pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent exposure when he appeared before Goole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Mrs Julie Laverack Glanville told the court that shortly before 11.30am on May 20, staff at the Tesco supermarket in Boothferry Road received a telephone call from a woman claiming that earlier that morning she had been shopping in the supermarket and her nine-year-old went to use the in-store public toilets.
The boy had told his mother that whilst he was using the urinal, there was a man in the toilet that was rubbing his exposed penis in a sexual manner.
A day later, police went to Mr Silman's house and arrested him on suspicion of commiting the offence.
Mrs Laverack Glanville said: "Mr Silman was frank, and admitted rubbing his erect penis whilst having sexual thoughts.
"He knew what he was doing was wrong and against the law but he said he was not masturbating."
Defending, Mr Shaun Pinchbeck told the court that his client had been working full-time locally but as a consequence of the charges he faced, he had since had his employment terminated and accepted that he needed help.
Magistrates decided to adjourn the case until August 7, awaiting a full pre-sentence report.
Mr Silman was released on unconditional bail until that date, but was forced to register on the sexual offenders list.
