Goole Solo Club is set to celebrate 20 successful years in existence next month when it hosts a birthday party at Drax Sports and Social Club.

The club is part of the National Federation of Solo Clubs, with a branch set up in the town in 1987, and on Saturday, August 4, members of Solo Clubs from around Yorkshire and Lincolnshire will come together at Drax Sports and Social Club to help Goole Solo Club celebrate its birthday in style.

As part of the national not-for-profit organisation, Goole Solo Club was established for the benefit of people who find themselves widowed, divorced, separated or single, and offers the opportunity for people to get together, make new friends and develop a new social life.

Goole Solo Club meets at the Briarcroft Hotel in Clifton Gardens each Tuesday evening, from 7.30pm until 11pm, where members can enjoy both sequence and modern dancing whilst they get to know fellow members.

"Goole Solo Club is not a pick-up club and is not open to married couples," explained secretary Roy Thredgold.

"The club is aimed at people who have been widowed, divorced or are single and gives the opportunity for people to have a nice, social evening with one another."

As well as its weekly meetings, the club also hosts an Open Night once a month, with a buffet provided, and holds an annual Games Day.

On the Club's agenda for later this year is a Tinsel and Turkey holiday in Weymouth, and the Club has a caravan situated on the Blue Dolphin Holiday Park in Filey that is available for members to rent throughout the year.

An annual subscription fee of £4.50 is required of each member, and each weekly session at the Briarcroft Hotel costs £1.25 per person.
