Plans by a food supplier to build four storage tanks and an overhead pipeline have the support of Goole Town councillors.

Britannia Food Ingredients, of Glews Hollow, have submitted a planning application which would allow them to load raw materials directly from ships in West Dock into the pipeline, and then the new storage tanks.

Currently, oil is discharged from ships into tanks at ports such as Hull and Liverpool, then brought to Goole by road.

If the company get the go ahead from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, it will remove much of the need for the road transportation.

At Monday's meeting, councillors agreed to support the application.
