Play area still on course for ERYC adoption
'When will our play area be completed?'
That is the question being asked once again by exasperated residents of the St George's Green development in Goole as they battle on in hope of seeing the completion of a safe children's play area on their estate.
The residential development and its play area is currently owned by major housing developer Peter Ward Homes.
For more than four years residents have been complaining to both Peter Ward Homes and East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) that stones and pieces of glass littering the play area make it unfit for children to play on and there is no suitable play equipment.
Residents were told earlier this year that St George's Green is to be adopted in October, after which time the possibility of play equipment can be considered, but resident Peter Earl told the Goole Times this week that residents were not being kept up to date with developments and were unsure whether the road will be fit for adoption in three months' time.
"I was promised that I would be kept up to date with developments but to date, I have received no information from anyone," said Mr Earl.
"We need an update. I don't want it to get to October and to have the council say that the area is not fit for adoption - then we will have to wait another year.
"The residents have had enough of nothing happening. The play area is just a bare piece of land with nothing for children to play on."
But a spokesperson for Peter Ward Homes told the Goole Times this week that plans for St George's Green to be adopted in October were still on course.
The spokesperson said: "It has been the responsibility of Peter Ward Homes to prepare the play area for adoption by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
"Following a meeting in October, 2006 involving our construction director, the landscape contractor and the council's representative, it was agreed that certain work should be undertaken, including further landscaping, replacing damaged trees, removing stones and top-dressing an area that had previously been repaired.
"That work has been completed and, since then, regular maintenance of the site has been undertaken. The site is due to be adopted later this year."
