Youth project secures Lottery funds boost

Published on 12th July 2007 in News

A new project celebrating young people's creativity has been given three years of funding.

The Goole and Howdenshire Youth Initiative, which aims to help young people aged between 11 and 19 develop their ideas and has been named Wise Youth, is "delighted" to have secured funding from the Young Person's Lottery.

The project will be officially launched on Saturday, July 21 at The Gate in Goole with the screening of the music documentary "Joe Strummer Let's Rock Again", by Dick Rude.

Simon Stafford, friend and co-song writer, will be introducing the documentary.

Development youth worker Angela Basson will present i-Pod prizes to the winners of the 'design a logo' competition and will also talk about the opportunities Wise Youth can offer young people and volunteers.

Organisers would like to encourage all community-spirited locals and entrepreneurs to attend and find out about organising arts projects and a voluntary live music festival in Goole and Howdenshire. Alternatively, Angela can be contacted via angela.ghyi@ourcomms.org or 07724 153662.

After the information session, at 9pm, there will be a evening of music when Velvet Star, The Element and Dawson Greens will perform an unplugged acoustic set. Simon Stafford will round off the night with his Melodica Odyssey.

The event is being recorded live in conjunction with Allen Raw from Radio Humberside's Raw Talent show.
