Concern over bus stops

Cars turning left from Andersen Road are almost immediately upon the bus stop.

Tim Richardson, managing director of Glews Garage, raised the issue at the July meeting of the Goole Chamber of Commerce on Monday.

He has since reiterated his concerns to the Goole Times, and asked: "Why do we have to have a big patch in the middle of the countryside?

"We're not a Leeds or a Sheffield. It's bureaucracy gone crazy."

Mr Richardson also condemned the positioning of the bus stops, which has been made more evident by the markings on the road.

On Rawcliffe Road, across from Howdens Joinery, there are two stops directly opposite one another, which leaves only a small gap in between if two buses stop there at the same time.

Further into the town, there is a bus stop on Rawcliffe Road on either side of the Andersen Road junction. Traffic turning left from Andersen Road, towards Rawcliffe and the M62 are almost immediately upon one of the stops.

However, Mr Richardson feels the most dangerous problem is on the slip road off the A614 into Airmyn, shortly before the Boothferry Bridge roundabout.

"The bus stop is about 18 inches from the junction," said Mr Richardson.

Investigations by the Goole Times found that the stop was indeed close to the turn off, and that cars are frequently travelling at speed when they turn off onto the slip road.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council was unavailable for comment as we went to press.
