Young entrepreneur set for sweet success with bakery
Published on 21st June 2007 in News
Two young sisters from Snaith have taken on a new venture and look set to be a huge success, with the opening of their bakery and food shop in their home town yesterday.
Although Debbie and Jenny Masters have just opened their shop, Kitchen Fabulous Foods, this week, the business began three years ago when Debbie, now 22, started baking bread in her Aga at home. Having worked in Betty's Tea Room's in York, Debbie has always been interested in baking, often baking speciality bread for dinner parties at home.
Debbie then approached a local farm shop who did not have a bread supplier and began baking all hours at home; she soon opened a bakery in Balne. She then began producing a whole range of mouthwatering speciality breads.
Debbie's business has flourished so much since she began that her younger sister, Jenny, aged 19, has now joined forces with her. Jenny went to Bishop Burton College to study business, making the pair a perfect partnership.
Despite their age, the successful pair already supply at least eight farm shops and delis in the North Yorkshire region, including the famous Castle Howard Farm Shop and Weeton's Deli in Harrogate. They also sell their produce at farmers' markets in Wakefield, Leeds and Pontefract as well as food festivals and agricultural shows including The Great Yorkshire Show and Driffield, to name but a few.
The sisters have also recently been shortlisted in the final three for the Harvey Nichols and Yorkshire Post Food Taste Awards, which, if they are winners, will see their Supa Dupa Meringues go on sale in Harvey Nichols for 12 months.
Debbie said yesterday: "We have had lots of nice comments and a very busy day. We were up at 2am to bake and then in the shop until late so we have only had about two hours' sleep. It will be a take away and a bottle of wine tonight I think!"
