Parking problems pondered

Published on 14th June 2007 in News

Concerns were raised at the June Snaith and Cowick Town Council meeting on Monday about parking near the playing field when football matches are taking place.

Councillors expressed fears that cars parked at the junction of Bourn Mill Balk Road and South Parkway restricted the view for other drivers and caused an obstruction. They pointed out that there was a car park which could be reached via the Ben Bailey Estate but some drivers were simply choosing not to use it.

Various options were discussed in an attempt to solve the matter, including installing a large mirror on the corner as a short-term measure. Other options were having someone standing on the corner directing traffic at the beginning of an event; cones; leaving notes on the windscreens of cars parked on the junction; or double yellow lines. The council decided to write to East Riding Council asking for double yellow at the junction.

l It was reported that a darts marathon held to raise funds for the Playing Fields Committee had raised more than £2,000. The council is now looking for a professional funding organisation to help raise money for architects for the proposed pavilion.

A football tournament also took place between Snaith Junior Football Club and Snaith Sports Community to raise money. Cllr Danny Hennessey said: "This tournament shows what can be achieved."

The council are currently putting in a planning application for the pavilion.
