What a mess!

Published on 14th June 2007 in News

The mayor of Snaith has described the state of the town's recently-reopened play area as 'outrageous'.

The joint-use play area, off Bourn Mill Balk Road, was reopened on May 12 by the former mayor, Greta Laughton.

New play equipment had been installed after more than a year's worth of fundraising.

But already the area has been spoiled by litter and debris.

Frank Townshend, the current mayor of Snaith and Cowick Town Council, said: "It's an absolute mess."

Fish and chip papers and fast-food cartons have been dropped on the area. Cllr Townshend said: "The people of Snaith don't deserve this, the way they treat it.

"My predecessor mayor, Cllr Greta Laughton, put an immense amount of effort into raising the funding to have this facility upgraded with all new equipment installed and the grass renewed.

"It is heart-breaking to see how little regard for its upkeep is shown by local users of the field."

"The thing is, there's a dustbin on the playing field to put rubbish in.

"It's outrageous."
