New cafe to eat into car park

Diners in Goole could soon have another option to choose from.
Full planning permission has been granted for a restaurant and cafe on the North Street car park.
It will be built on the area closest to Lidl and Farmfoods and will form part of the North Street Retail Park.
18 parking places lost
The new building will mean the loss of 18 parking spaces and at a meeting last week, Goole town councillors expressed concern about the reduction.
However, on Tuesday afternoon an East Riding planning committee accepted research by applicants Oakgate Group plc which showed that 34 car parking spaces were free on a Tuesday, and 138 on a Saturday.
Town councillors had also raised concerns about the effect on residents, particularly the elderly residents of nearby Gibraltar Court.
Again, the planning committee were satisfied that this would not be the case, as the building will be 25 metres from the flats and is considered 'low profile'.
A report to the planning committee said although there were could potentially be a problem with fumes and noise, the restaurant would be far enough away from the flats for this not to arise.
Planning permission was granted on the condition that there will be no take-away service.
The report to the planning committee concluded by saying that the restaurant will have "positive benefits for the vitality and viability of the town centre and the citizens of Goole."
l In reference to last week's article about the plans ('Town Council object to new restaurant plans'), a comment was wrongly attributed to the town clerk.
It was in fact Cllr Brian Rust, not Brian Robertson, who said he was surprised the applicants had chosen to erect a new building instead of occupying an unused part of the existing retail park.
