Police forums to tackle crime

Published on 14th June 2007 in News

A new initiative from Humberside Police aims to make it easier to get involved with tackling local crime.

Police and Partners Community Forums, which replace the Police Authority's Neighbourhood Panels, are to be set up and will meet every two months.

The forums will be a chance for local people to highlight their main concerns about crime, disorder and community safety and help decide what issues should be prioritised.

Neighbourhood Action Teams will then work with the community and other partners to identify sustainable solutions to the problems.

Chief Inspector Pam Barnes, responsible for Neighbourhood Policing in the East Riding, said: "Local people are the ones who know what is happening in their neighbourhoods.

"It is important that we listen to them and use this information to tackle the problems which are affecting them the most."

The forums will be based on local council wards. For more information, go to www.humberside-pa.org.uk
