'Unsustainable' likely to be decision on housing proposal

A planning application to re-build and convert existing farm buildings in Swinefleet to form a house with a granny annex and 'work-from-home' studio do not look set to be given the go-ahead when the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's (ERYC) Planning Committee meets today, Thursday.
ERYC planning officers will recommend at today's meeting that the application relating to Onslow House in Church Lane, submitted by Mr and Mrs Alcock, is turned down.
Originally, the application was for the erection of a new home and the re-building of barns to form two new homes, but the application has been amended to instead provide for the re-building and conversion of existing farm buildings to form a single home incorporating a granny annex and work-from-home studio.
Planning officers have stated that the sole issue surrounding the application is whether Swinefleet is considered to be a sustainable location for this type of housing development. Swinefleet possesses few services or facilities, and other planning applications have been refused as being unsustainable.
Officers are aware that the amended application is now for only a single dwelling and provides a planning gain by the renovation of outbuildings, but officers maintain that the application should be refused on the grounds that it is unsustainable.
