Self-serve success

The new self-service checkouts at Tesco in Goole have proved to be popular since they opened nearly a month ago.
Last month, Goole town mayor Cllr Jean Kitchen cut the ribbon at the self-service checkouts that have been installed in the Boothferry Road store.
A spokesperson for Tesco told the Goole Times this week: "The new self-service checkouts have been doing well, and are ideal if you only have a few things to pay for.
"Some people have been nervous about using them but staff are on hand to offer assistance."
As self-service checkouts have become more popular in retail chains across the UK, some people feared that they could lead to a rise in shop thefts as items 'slip through the net', but the Tesco spokesperson said: "Our staff are not only on hand to help customers, but to be vigilant also."
