Power plant plans

Goole Town councillors have requested expert information about plans to build a renewable power plant at Centreport.
At Monday's meeting, they considered a proposal for a biomass-fuelled combined heat and power plant at the Tesco Distribution Centre near Junction 36 of the M62.
Cllr Malcolm Boatman said: "Tesco have a target of reducing their own carbon emissions by 50 per cent by 2010. They're planning to burn renewable resources - mainly straw but also wood chippings.
"Any surplus electricity can be put back into the National Grid."
It was also suggested that the ash left from the burned straw could be put back into the land.
However, Goole resident Douglas Marcham said he had reservations about the the technology in the plant.
"I'm not knocking Tesco for their decision to do the right thing - I just think they're using the wrong technology," he told the meeting.
"I hope you will delay your decision until you have more information on the matter."
Councillors agreed to ask a representative from Enviros, who have been employed by Tesco as consultants, to attend a meeting and give more details about the plans.
It is expected that the plant would take about 18 months to complete.
