Town Council object to new restaurant plans

Plans to build a new eatery have run up against opposition from Goole Town councillors.
Oakgate Group plc have submitted plans to build a cafe or restaurant in the car park near the Lidl store.
At Monday's town council meeting Cllr Jane Marsden objected strongly to the proposal, saying: "It would spoil what is a nice, leafy car park.
"We'd lose about 38 spaces."
Cllr Marsden also expressed concern that a building in the car park would create a barrier to the public view.
"I'd be very worried if they put a building there - all sorts of things could be going on," she said.
"I'm worried about the knock-on effect it could have on the elderly residents in the flats opposite."
There were further concerns that the car park belongs to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC).
Clerk Brian Robertson said he was surprised the applicants had not chosen to use an unused part of the existing building, instead of applying to erect a new building.
The councillors' comments will be passed onto the ERYC, who will consider the application at a forthcoming planning meeting.
