Driver fined for no insurance

Published on 7th June 2007 in News

A Goole man had six penalty points slapped on his driving licence and was ordered to pay £200 in fines and court costs earlier this week after he was found guilty of driving without insurance.

Arthur Huntington (42), of Pasture Road was not present at Goole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, but pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Julie Laverack Glanville told the court that on February 9 this year a police officer spotted Mr Huntington driving a Vauxhall Vectra along Boothferry Road in Howden and stopped his car. An insurance check revealed that the car was not insured.

Mr Huntington insisted that his car was insured and that the details were at home, but when he later produced his documents at a police station it was found that the vehicle was not insured at the time he was stopped.

Mr Huntington issued a statement of apology, which was read out to the court on Tuesday, explaining that he had recently split from his wife and used his car to pick up his children at weekends.

He said: "There has been so much going on that I must have forgotten to insure the car, but I went to insure it at the first opportunity."

Magistrates endorsed Mr Huntington's driving licence with six penalty points and ordered that he pay a fine of £160 and £40 in court costs.
