Safety standard recognised

The Drax Power Station Health and Safety Management System has been certified to an internationally-recognised assessment specific-ation for Occupational Health and Safety.

The company has achieved OHSAS 18001 certification and is amongst the first coal-fired power stations in the country to hold the standard, approved by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance.

Dorothy Thompson, chief executive of Drax, said: "Our health and safety systems have developed significantly over recent years with leading performance as our goal.

"This independent certification further demonstrates our commitment to implement, maintain and improve the way we manage our Health and Safety systems to ensure that Drax remains a safe place to work."
