Regalia wanted

Published on 24th May 2007 in News

Howden town councillors proposed this week that a fund should be set up towards the purchase of a traditional chain of office.

The decision came following an anonymous donation of £100 towards a chain of office for the town mayor.

Currently, the medallion hangs from a blue ribbon. Cllr John Watson told fellow members on Tuesday that he would like to see the medallion hanging from a traditional chain, usually made from gold, silver or gilt.

Cllr Ingrid Ridley said: "It's not something that has ever bothered me. As mayor, you are here to do a job."

But Cllr Watson added: "When you look around other parish councils, they have chains and I think we should have something other than a bit of tape."
