Stuffed brush down pants!

Published on 24th May 2007 in News

A Goole thief who tried to steal an electric toothbrush by hiding it in his tracksuit bottoms has been fined £100.

Sven Erik Isle (22), of Spencer Street, appeared at Goole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to one charge of theft.

The court heard that Mr Isle went into Tesco on Boothferry Road between 1.30pm and 1.45pm on May 14.

Julie Laverack Glanville, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Mr Isle had walked to the back of the shop where he was seen by a shop assistant to be acting suspiciously.

Mrs Glanville said the defendant picked up a boxed electric toothbrush which he put into his tracksuit bottoms.

He walked towards the exit, where he was stopped by a security guard and the police were called.

In a subsequent interview, Mr Isle admitted stealing the toothbrush.

Ross Wagstaff, defending, said: "Mr Isle had been drinking with friends. He went into the supermarket and stupidly selected the item.

"He cannot say what his intentions were.

"It was a silly act, done in drink and he regrets it."

Mr Wagstaff also pointed out that the electric toothbrush was recovered without damage or cost to the supermarket.

Magistrates fined the defendant £100, ordered him to pay £55 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge fee.
