Head teacher Keith Thomas: Proud of the ‘happy’ and ‘productive’ environment at Rawcliffe Primary School.

Rawcliffe Primary School has been judged 'good' in every aspect of an Ofsted inspection carried out last month.

The school in Ridding Lane was praised for its 'harmonious ethos' in which staff work together and pupils have good attitudes to their learning.

Ofsted inspector Doug Lowes found that attendance is above average, reflecting pupils' views that Rawcliffe Primary School is "an enjoyable place to be". Mr Lowes added that pupils' behaviour is very good and relationships are 'respectful'.

He said: "Provision for pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is good. As a result, pupils have a very clear sense of right and wrong, which contributes well to the skills that they will need when they are older.

"Pupils are keen to offer their views through the school council and undertake positions of responsibility in a mature way. For example, some pupils are 'playtime buddies', helping younger children and assisting the adult supervisors in school."

The report also highlighted that the quality of teaching and learning within the school is good. Teachers motivate pupils to learn and have good subject knowledge and, as a result, pupils make good progress in lessons.

Information and communication technology and art are both strong features of the curriculum at Rawcliffe Primary School and are used effectively to support learning in other subjects. Provision for pupils with learning difficulties or disabilities is well planned to meet their needs, and the Foundation Stage curriculum is good with many strengths.

The school's encouragement of healthy eating was also praised, and it was noted that pupils show their commitment to healthy lifestyles through choosing healthy eating options at lunchtimes and through the 'fruit for schools' scheme for younger children.

Head teacher Keith Thomas said: "It is very pleasing that the Ofsted inspector was able to see that this is a good school.

"I am very proud of the hard work that everyone involved with the school has put in, and I would like to thank them for creating such a happy and productive place of learning."
