A planning application to continue using agricultural land in Gilberdyke for equestrian exercise and as a training paddock was refused earlier this week after concerns about the amount of noise and dust generated were raised.

Meeting on Tuesday, members of East Riding of Yorkshire Council's western area planning committee were expected to approve plans for continuation of use at Chapel Farm, off Sandholme Road, Gilberdyke, submitted by Mr R. Overend.

An arena has been constructed and activity has been carried out for over a year at the site. Horse training is undertaken at the site, as well as jousting and battle re-enactments at weekends, which may involve several horses and riders.

But Gilberdyke Parish Council strongly objected to the application on the grounds that it could cause problems for residents of the village and through traffic because of lack of parking facilities. There were also concerns over the amount of noise, disturbance and dust that could be caused for nearby Walnut Cottage.

Committee members refused the application because the site was in close proximity to Walnut Cottage, and the amount of noise and dust generated was not desirable.
