Councillor Stephen Parnaby was once again elected Leader of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) at its annual meeting held last Thursday, May 17.

Conservative Cllr Parnaby will be Leader of the council for its next term, with Cllr Jonathan Owen elected as deputy leader.

Also, Cllr Barbara Jefferson was elected Chairman of ERYC for the current municipal year, taking over from Cllr Hilary Saynor, whilst Cllr Bryan Pearson was elected vice-chairman.

Cllr Jefferson is a councillor for the North Holderness ward and has been with ERYC since 1996. Before that, she was a member of Holderness Borough Council for 17 years, and has been a member of Hornsea Town Council for 32 years.

She said it was a 'great honour' to be elected chairman of ERYC, and although she is chairman of a local branch of the British Heart Foundation, she is looking to support other charities throughout the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Cllr Jefferson added: "My aim for this year is to spread a little happiness wherever I go."
