Night-time 'Bat watch'

Published on 24th May 2007 in News

The Friends of Oakhill group is set to host a second-to-none Bat Night next Wednesday (May 30) when a representative from the East Yorkshire Bat Group will be on hand to share expert knowledge.

The event will take place free of charge, as all Friends of Oakhill events are supported by Goole Development Trust, East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Big Lottery Fund's Breathing Places.

Friends of Oakhill chairman Kester Dean said: "Bats form part of a fascinating 'night shift' of wildlife and this event is a great opportunity to find out more about the weird and wonderful world of night-time wildlife.

"East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) will supply bat detectors which pick up the ultra-sonic calls of these fascinating creatures. Last year, we detected many Pipistrelle bats and this year, we hope to find more of those, as well as the rarer Whiskered bat and Daubentons bat, both present in the area."

All those interested in taking part are asked to meet in The Courtyard's car park at 8.30pm.
