A Goole mother has been fined £400 and banned from driving after tests showed she was more than three times over the drink-drive limit.

Clare Wheldrake (37), of Union Place, appeared in Goole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to one charge of drink driving.

Prosecuting, Julie Laverack Glanville told magistrates that on May 12, around 3.45pm, officers had spoken to Mrs Wheldrake while she was in her car on Whincroft Avenue. The car was stationary but the engine was running.

Officers smelt alcohol on her breath and a roadside breath test proved positive.

She was arrested and taken to the police station, where further tests showed that she had 118mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg in 100ml of breath.

In her defence, the court heard that Mrs Wheldrake had been off work since March on sick leave and has been diagnosed with post-natal depression.

On the day in question, Mrs Wheldrake had gone to Tesco to buy food for the family after consuming a quantity of wine.

The court heard that Mrs Wheldrake did not have an alcohol problem, was 'very sorry' for what she had done and had promised never to drink drive again.

Magistrates ordered Mrs Wheldrake to pay a £400 fine. She was also disqualified from driving for 32 months and ordered to pay court costs of £55 and a victim surcharge of £15.
