Don't be fooled by gold scam

Published on 24th May 2007 in News

Police are warning: 'All that glisters is not gold' after reports of cheap jewellery being sold in the street.

Officers have been told of people asking unrealistic prices for what looks gold, despite it being worth very little.

Samantha Lane, spokesperson for Humberside Police, said: "The items tend to be of a gold appearance but people are not to be fooled into thinking they are getting a bargain.

"Officers would advise people who are offered such items to think carefully before making any purchases.

"If people are offering you a deal which sounds too good to be true then it probably is."

Shoppers are also advised to buy goods from reputable shops or official market traders.

Anyone who is approached in the street and is concerned should contact Humberside Police on 0845 6060 222.
