Environment agency invite to flood meeting

Published on 17th May 2007 in News

Members of Snaith and Cowick Town Council are set to invite a representative from the Environment Agency to attend the council's next meeting to discuss a proposed flood management plan that could see the frequency of flooding increased in some parts of the local area to deliver benefits elsewhere.

The full plans are part of the draft River Aire Catchment Flood Management Plan, which can be found at www.environment-agency.gov.uk and includes two main features - it proposes general policies for managing flooding along the River Aire and includes an action plan saying what the Environment Agency and other organisations need to do.

Snaith and Cowick Town Council has been approached for its comments on the draft plan, but instead agreed on Monday that an Environment Agency representative should be invited along to June's council meeting to discuss the prominent issue.

Cllr Richard Bridge said: "This is not something we should rush, it is very important."
