Rainbow Pre-school on North Street in Goole has received a positive response from a recent Ofsted inspection and was described as a 'welcoming and stimulating environment for the children'.
The nursery was described as clean and tidy with children learning to take responsibility for their own hygiene. Health and safety is promoted as staff implement suitable policies and procedures.
The children's health and wellbeing is also promoted as they engage in regular exercise that develops their balance and co-ordination.
Rooms were described as very child focused with visual displays to enhance children's learning and allowing them to recognise their achievements. The children's safety is also enhanced through 'vigilant staff supervision' and staff were said to be quick to respond to incidents.
Children were described as happy and displaying signs of gaining independence. It was pointed out that lots of pictorial aids link to letters and 'provide good support for developing children's language and communication'. Staff support all children to count in sequence and they were said to 'use praise effectively raising children's self-esteem'.
Children were said to be 'welcomed into the group by friendly staff' and 'staff remain sensitive to the needs of the children'.
The children 'access a good range of resources that meet their age and level of ability'. They have also learnt about Indian culture which helps them learn about diversity and the current topic of farming helps them gain an understanding of their community.
Good systems are in place to support children with physical and learning disabilities which 'ensures all children are able to join in with activities at a level appropriate to their age and stage of development'.
It was also said that children 'benefit from a key worker system which meets their learning and individual needs and a low turnover of staff provides them with consistency of care'. Adult-child ratios are met and children further benefit from regular volunteers who bring new ideas to the setting.
In order to secure further improvement, some recommendations have been put into place including providing activities and play opportunities that are 'developmentally appropriate and meet children's needs' and ensuring the child protection policy, complaints and vetting procedure reflects the changes as shown in the National Standards for under 8s day care and childminding addendum.
Doreen Atkinson, Committee Chair for Rainbow's Pre-school said: "This is an excellent report, especially because of the change of management structure from the Methodist Church to the Independent Management Committee recently. This is thanks to the day to day staff."
The quality and standards of the care was given an overall rating of 'satisfactory' - meeting the National Standards for under 8s day care and childminding.
