Jail a possibility after 'false gun threat' claim

A Latvian who claimed he was threatened with a gun has been warned he could be jailed for perverting the course of justice.
Girts Policans, of Pasture Road in Goole, initially denied perverting the course of justice but told police he had been threatened when he had not.
It caused a man to be locked up wrongly and detained while he was questioned. He lied to the police.
Mr Policans, who appeared at Hull Crown Court on Friday, May 10, pleaded guilty to one offence of committing an act intending to pervert the course of justice. It was his second appearance at Hull Crown Court.
He made a false allegation that Kestutis Janusevicius had threatened to kill him and that he had a gun. It followed a dispute over a woman.
Defence solicitor Mr Richard Thompson told a hearing in March that Mr Policans had intended to admit a course of conduct, but not necessarily the charge as it was presently formed.
Judge Roger Thorn, QC, adjourned the case against Mr Policans for a report on his background, adding that by doing so that was not an indication of his likely sentence.
He was granted bail to live in Pasture Road in Goole, ordered not to contact the complainant and to report regularly to Goole Police Station.
