Remembering our kind-hearted Olly

Published on 10th May 2007 in News

The town mourns the sad loss of Goole's most dedicated fundraiser this week as tomorrow marks one year since Olive Hunt MBE passed away.

Olive, universally known as Olly, sadly passed away on May 11, 2006 after a battle with cancer.

Along with a team of helpers, Olly ran the Community Store in Edinburgh Street, Goole and each and every week without fail, the shop has sold unwanted items and all money raised was donated to local good causes and charities.

Tireless fund-raiser with a heart of gold

It has been estimated that in the eight years that Olive was involved in the Community Store, in excess of £750,000 was raised.

Olly's enthusiasm and boundless energy for fundraising earned her recognition in the 2000 New Year's Honours List, when she received an MBE for 'services to the community.'
