Poison mystery as dog dies

Published on 10th May 2007 in News

A healthy dog in Market Weighton is believed to have been poisoned after it collapsed within minutes of eating something while off its lead.

The dog, a collie and retriever cross, was seen by its owner to eat something while she was walking it along Market Weighton canal around 6.50pm last Thursday.

Ten minutes later, the dog collapsed and the woman had to carry the dog home and take it to the vets.

Unfortunately, the dog died shortly after arriving at the vets.

A post-mortem suggested it had eaten some form of poison and police have contacted the wildlife department of the Department for the Environment, Fisheries and Rural Affairs.
