Show back to its best

Published on 3rd May 2007 in News

The forthcoming Howden Show looks set to be an unmissable event after a spectacular line-up was revealed this week.

The annual show will return for its 127th year on Sunday, July 15 at The Ashes Playing Field and as well as all the old favourites, a host of new attractions have been planned.

In the run-up to this year's Howden Show, a number of successful events have already been held in aid of the event, but there are still more to come before the show officially kicks off.

Saturday, May 19 sees the much-anticipated Race Night at the ARD show room in Knedlington Road with a 7.30pm prompt start. Tickets are available now at £5 - including a pie and peas supper, disco and bar - and can be ordered by calling Leonie Dykes on 07970814085, Karen Dixon on 07856590597 or The Wheatsheaf on 01430 432334.

The Howden Show Committee has also arranged a disco and bar, due to take place on Friday, July 13 from 7.30pm until midnight. Tickets cost £5 each and are available by calling Leonie Dykes, Karen Dixon or The Wheatsheaf.

And the show itself is set to be no disappointment, with a fantastic line-up of events on offer, some of which are new to Howden Show.

Mad Science is the world's leading provider of science enrichment for children and its Yorkshire and Humber division will be making its first appearance at Howden Show, sparking imaginative learning with its unique brand of engaging and educational live program and activities. The team from Mad Science is set to visit Howden Infant and Howden Junior School today (Thursday) to offer pupils a taster of what is to be in store at Howden Show.

The spectacular fashion show returns once again this year, featuring designs from R & R Country, Rachel Horner, Vivien Claire, Bibi Childrenswear and many more.

A new attraction to Howden Show will be a performance from Xtreme Trials, the motorcycle stunt trials display team, who will perform on a purpose-built stunt display unit and feature two of the world's best stunt riders.

As well as some new additions, the usual horse classes and agricultural section will be available, and the popular Fur and Feathers will make a triumphant return to the show.

A Howden Show committee member said: "The Howden Show committee is very excited about the 2007 show. Howden Show is changing, it is moving back to its roots as a one-day show at the Ashes Playing Field and returning to an Agricultural and Horticulture base.

"We aim to build an entertaining show for all ages that will bring back the heart into the community and promote the show, attracting new exhibitors, especially schools."

There are now limited spaces available for trade stands, but Farmers Market spaces are on offer. For more information and to check availability, contact Leonie Dykes or Karen Dixon.

Howden Show schedules will be available shortly from www.howdenshow.co.uk. Show tickets will be available on the day, priced at £4 or can be ordered now at a cost of £3.50 by calling Leonie Dykes, Karen Dixon or The Wheatsheaf.
