Not insured to drive drinking pal's vehicle

A Howden man who thought he was acting sensibly by driving his friend's car after his friend had been drinking has been fined for having no insurance.
Dmitrijs Nazarovs (25), of Boothferry Road, appeared in Goole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to driving without insurance.
The court heard that he was driving a Vauxhall Vectra in October last year on Airmyn Road, Goole, when he was stopped by police.
One of the men in the car was drunk but the police officer had no suspicion that the driver, Mr Nazarovs, was.
The defendant told police: "I'm just helping a friend by taking him home."
However, the defendant was not insured to drive the Vectra.
Defending himself through an interpreter, Mr Nazarovs told the court that in the country where he came from, the rules were different and he would have been covered to drive.
The court heard that the car belonged to a friend of Mr Nazarovs who was in the car at the time.
Mr Nazarovs decided to drive because his friend had been drinking and he thought it dangerous for him to drive.
Magistrates fined Mr Nazarovs £90, ordered him to pay £40 in court costs and ordered his licence to be endorsed with six penalty points.
