A man has admitting causing the death of his wife when he crashed his car at Walden Stubbs whilst almost three-and-a-half times the legal limit for driving.
David Norman Gosling (49) of Sweyne Garth, Swinefleet entered his plea when he appeared before York Crown Court on Thursday, April 19 the court hearing that the accident happened on the A19 on November 5, last year.
Following the accident Mr Gosling was found to have an alcohol reading in breath of 116 microgrammes - the legal limit for driving being 35 microgrammes.
Mrs Diane Gosling, who had been a passenger in the defendant's Rover Vitesse car, died in hospital eleven days after the accident.
Calling for a pre-sentence report in the case Mr David Taylor, defending, also asked for a psychiatric report to be prepared because of concerns for the mental state of his client.
He told the court that both the death of his client's wife and the fact that his son had previously died as a result of a road accident had led to those around him to fear for Mr Gosling's well being.
The case was adjourned until May 22 for sentencing, the Recorder of York, Judge Paul Hoffman, telling MR Gosling; "You must understand that custody is likely."
