Police authority seek new representatives

Published on 14th September 2006 in News

Humberside Police Authority is currently seeking two independent members to join the other 15 members of the Authority.

The Police Authority is encouraging people from typically under-represented groups to apply in a bid to ensure that all sections of the community are represented.

The Police Authority is made up of 17 members, nine of whom are locally-elected councillors, three are magistrates and five are known as independents ? in other words members of the local community. It is hoped that the independent members will bring a wide range of experience and skills to the Authority, to help strengthen the scrutiny of the police service on behalf of local people.

Normally, independent members serve on the Authority for a period of four years, in this case from April, 2007.

The role attracts an annual allowance of £7,928, plus expenses, and in return will require a commitment of about seven to ten hours per week. Members are expected to: attend all Authority meetings and appropriate committees and panels; participate in public consultation on local policing issues, including evening meetings and public speaking; keep abreast of developments in both local and national policing; and represent the Authority in discussions with interested parties.

The closing date for applications is October 20 and the appointments will be announced early next year. For further details on the role or to receive an application pack please call Laura Seddon on 01482 317001 or email laura.seddon@humberside.pnn.police.uk
